Desert Surprises

We are in Needles, California for awhile and the desert is in bloom.  We drove from Quartzite up to Prescott to put the boat in storage and the drive was gorgeous with everything blooming.  We got to Needles and the bloom is still going strong.  There are several kinds of cactus in bloom right here at the campground -- mostly prickly pear.    The oleander bushes (full of white blooms) are quite tall here and make nice privacy fences between camp sites.

We went on a drive alongside the Colorado River on national wildlife refuge property and spotted the rattle snake.  All kinds of people were having fun by or in the river, fishing, boating, getting wet, etc.  There are some pretty big boats on the river and the river is not that wide and parts of it get kind of shallow so they can't run too far.  Most boats were beached and the people were enjoying the beach --- boat gas is expensive so its a way to enjoy the water without spending a fortune.  We saw some fishermen trying to catch a bass or a catfish.

Its been cooler here than in Yuma but now the temp is starting to creep up into the 90's.  Not sure how long we will last here but it still wants to freeze at night in Montana so we are just hanging out waiting for warmer weather in the far north.
